Counihans front

This lively Authentic Irish Bar with it’s olde wooden charm has been serving drink to Corkonians and Visitors alike for over 200 years, (with a few days off).

Here, we will keep you  informed of upcoming events & musical excursions – with such musical alchemists as Ricky Lynch and The Lynch Mob, Arundo and one of the city’s newest cultural development; Cork Sociedad Española – a small group of avid learners in the language of Spanish . At Counihans, The musical affluence brings; comfort, enjoyment and laughter.

Enjoy the atmosphere and the music. Next time you are in the centre of Cork, meet your friends and make new ones at Counihans.  You can book our private function room for larger meetings, anniversaries or private parties.

pub_front_corkWe really are two bars in one: Old world charm below with authentic exposed brick-work AND our modern design bar and function rooms upstairs. So, finalize that business deal, or present your artwork in a bright, tranquil annex and celebrate it with crowds or small groups.

we can guarantee that all our staff can pull a mean pint, are quite pleasant when unprovoked and are at their best when dealing with large orders.

GET OUT! Enjoy yourselves – it’s all there for you.  Alone or with friends – we are always happy to welcome you inside!

Fáilte isteach!

Finding Counihans Bar is easy. If you are in the centre of Cork city you are across from our premises. We are right beside the General Post Office, (known locally as the GPO on Pembroke Street).

So, if you are on this street you can probably hear the music or the banter. That’s Counihans – or rather our regulars. Otherwise you’ll find the bar by cutting through from Patrick’s Street onto Winthrop Street (past Brown Thomas store), standing at it’s end and looking across Oliver Plunkett Street to the left of the GPO.

However you get here, you’ll be at the centre of it all at Counihans. See you soon!

Was there in March this year great pub. Great night ★★★★★

Nice atmosphere, great place to watch hurling and football. Can be hard to find with many pubs in city obsessed with showing English soccer on round the clock!

This is a great bar in Cork. Its in a great location which is perfect if your going out on the town with friends. I would deffo start off here but wouldn’t stay here for the night.

Just what we were looking for. Great bar with fantastic live traditional Irish music. Made our stay in Cork outstanding!
